KLA is the scale leader in semiconductor process control and bids for the same inspection and metrology tool budgets at foundries, memory makers and OSATs, including the packaging and bump-inspection steps where Camtek concentrates.
The other Israeli process-control vendor, Nova sells dimensional and materials metrology to the same fabs and has pushed into advanced-packaging metrology, the segment that generates most of Camtek's revenue.
Onto sells automated optical inspection and metrology systems for patterned wafers and panels aimed at the same advanced-packaging and wafer-level-packaging lines Camtek's Eagle and Hawk platforms serve, and the two firms litigated for over a decade over wafer-inspection patents.
The Japanese maker of the INSPECTRA wafer-inspection systems, spun out of Toray Engineering, sells defect inspection for back-end and panel-level packaging lines, including glass substrates, competing for the same customers as Camtek in Asia.
