Akamai sells the same bundle of content delivery, web application firewall and DDoS protection to the same enterprise websites and apps, and is the incumbent Cloudflare displaces in large accounts.
Through CloudFront, AWS Shield, AWS WAF and Lambda@Edge, Amazon offers delivery, security and edge compute to the same web workloads, and can bundle them into the cloud contract a customer already signs.
Zscaler competes directly with Cloudflare One for the corporate network-security budget: zero-trust access, secure web gateway and SASE for employees and branch offices.
F5 defends the same application-delivery and web application firewall workloads, historically with on-premises appliances and now with its own cloud and edge services.
Fastly competes for the same developer-led customers with an edge network, programmable edge compute and security services that overlap Cloudflare's core offering almost one to one.
Google Cloud CDN, Cloud Armor and Cloud Load Balancing address the same delivery and application-protection budget, aimed at companies that host their applications on Google's platform.

Cloudflare Inc. is planning a private offering of $2.175 billion in senior convertible notes. This move follows a recent guidance boost that propelled the cybersecurity firm's shares to an intraday high. Convertible notes allow companies to raise capital with the potential to convert debt into equity, which can dilute existing shareholders if the stock price rises significantly. While the offering itself doesn't immediately impact the stock price, it signals Cloudflare's strategy to secure funding, potentially for expansion or acquisitions, without immediate dilution. Investors will monitor the terms of the notes and how the company utilizes the raised capital.

- 5/21/2026NEUTRALCloudflare posted record revenue, then cut 20% of its workforce. CEO Matthew Prince says AI has made an entire category of workers obsolete
Cloudflare Inc. announced record revenue figures, indicating strong business growth. However, the company simultaneously revealed a significant workforce reduction, cutting approximately 20% of its employees. CEO Matthew Prince explained this move in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, stating a strategic shift from 'measurers' to 'builders' and 'sellers,' driven by advancements in artificial intelligence that have rendered certain roles obsolete. This dual announcement presents a mixed outlook for investors, balancing top-line performance against restructuring costs and potential impacts on employee morale and future innovation.

Cloudflare Inc. announced a significant workforce reduction, cutting approximately 1,100 jobs, representing 20% of its staff. This move comes despite the company exceeding its Q1 revenue expectations. The strategic pivot towards an 'agentic AI-first' model aims to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the artificial intelligence sector. While job cuts can signal underlying financial pressures or restructuring, the company's proactive stance on AI suggests a forward-looking strategy to capture new market growth.
