The closest peer to Freeport: a large open-pit copper miner with molybdenum by-products in Peru, Mexico and the United States, selling concentrate and cathode to the same smelters and industrial buyers.
The other producer disputing first place in world copper output, through Escondida in Chile and its Arizona mines, competing for the same customers and for the same tier-one copper deposits.
The Chilean state copper company is among the three largest producers in the world and supplies the same refined copper and concentrate markets, even though it is not listed on any exchange.
Mines copper in Chile, Peru, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Australia and also trades the metal, so it competes with Freeport both at the mine and on the sale of concentrate.
A copper-focused miner whose large assets in Zambia and Panama serve the same concentrate buyers, and which competes for the same emerging-market mining concessions.
A pure copper producer with four Chilean mines that, like Freeport, lives almost entirely off the copper price and sells to the same smelters and refiners.

The copper giant cited unforeseen challenges with specialized equipment required for operations post-mudslide, leading to a revised ramp-up schedule. Investors are closely monitoring the situation, as Grasberg is a cornerstone of Freeport's output and profitability, particularly in the current copper market.
- 3/24/2026POSITIVE$1000 Invested In Freeport-McMoRan 10 Years Ago Would Be Worth This Much Today
An investment of $1,000 in Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) ten years ago would have yielded a significant return by today's valuation. While the exact current value is not provided, the article implies substantial growth, driven by the company's position as a major copper and gold producer. Copper prices have seen considerable volatility and upward trends over the past decade, influenced by global demand for electrification and infrastructure projects. This performance suggests FCX has capitalized on these market dynamics, rewarding long-term shareholders.

- 2/23/2026NEUTRALTrump Tariffs and the Copper Outlook
Speaking from the BMO Metals & Mining Conference, Kathleen Quirk, President and CEO of Freeport-McMoRan, provided a strategic overview of the challenges and opportunities in the copper sector. Her discussion focused on three key themes: the potential impact of President Trump's tariffs, the future dynamics of global copper supply, and the outlook for merger and acquisition (M&A) deals within the mining industry. The CEO's comments do not outline an immediate, defined impact but rather a complex picture of geopolitical and economic variables. For investors, these statements serve as a crucial reminder of the uncertainties facing the commodities sector, where trade policies and global supply chain stability play as critical a role as the physical supply and demand for the metal.
